Introduction

Wernher von Braun, the rocket scientist who was a card-carrying Nazi built the world's first ballistic missile with slave labor from concentration camps. As the war wound down, he surrendered to the Americans and took his rocket-building team and talents to the United States. Eventually, he became a leader in the American space program, building the rocket (the Saturn V) that carried Apollo 11 to the moon. After the 1957 launch of the Russian satellite Sputnik, the first manmade object to enter space, von Braun and his team assembled and launched the first American satellite, Explorer 1, on Jan. 31, 1958. Space exploration might still be a dream if it hadn't been for the cruel scientist's work. We do not claim to justify WWII, but we do propose a virtual exploration for those not indifferent through NASA App.
